The scoop: Opened as an independent business in March 2007.
My take: After I left, I felt the immediate need to put on (more) lip gloss and go shopping. In fact, I went straight to Urban Outfitters and walked around looking for a cute denim skirt, like one one of the stylists was wearing. I felt drastically under-cool — yet inspired to look good.
The atmosphere: A European feel, with loud music and simple decorations. The salon is small and personal yet it reflects the worldly, trendy side of Boulder. If it were a coffee shop, think: Amante Coffee on Walnut Street.
"Our vision: A fun, trendy place you want to hang out at. You want to be here, like salons used to be. A social gathering with a service to make you feel better about yourself.
The philosophy: Its name means "the beautiful life" in Italian, and La Vita Bella is fueled by a passion for beauty. The salon is inspired by the European fashion industry, which, let's be real, is way ahead of the American curve. This shop embodies that.
The people: Dang, all the stylists are hot. They all have style and are an inspiration in and of themselfs, this is where punk-meets-glamorous style. Stylists don't work on commission and are all master stylists.
The clients: Since La Vita Bella is located near the University of Colorado campus, many of its customers are college students, but the stylists see people of all ages.
Specialty: Hip to the core, creative and punk, funky cold medina. Stylists value creativity, but are well-rounded. Last week they cut a Mohawk, followed up a few days later by elegant prom updos.
"Not everyone wants trendy, and we can do the natural look, "But if someone comes in and says, 'Make me funky-crazy,' I'm more inspired."
